A moment in Kamakura

I was eager to capture a few more street snaps before the end of my trip to Japan. So, I woke up early at 6 am and headed out to explore the streets of Kamakura with my beloved Fuji X-E4 in hand.

For a couple of hours, I wandered around, following my instincts and searching for the perfect light and composition. As the streets were empty, I headed to the beach before stopping by the train station, hoping to capture some classic shots of people hopping on and off the train. Satisfied with a couple of interesting snapshots, I decided to return to my Airbnb. But as I walked past a corner on the main street, I saw an interesting building and I decided to take a picture of it. Then, like any good Forrest Gump-style adventure, I continued walking a few more meters, in search of something even more captivating. So I walked few more minutes ‘till I had to stop when an unexpected rain shower began to pour down. I took refuge beneath the roof of a building and from beneath the shelter I muttered complaints as the rain continued to pelt the ground.

With a shift in mindset, I realized that complaining wouldn't do any good and setting my sights on a more positive outcome I grabbed my camera, sensing that something fascinating could unfold before my eyes.

Within moments, a graceful lady wearing a vintage dress emerged from the rain. As she held an umbrella to shield herself, I immediately raised my camera and snapped a photo, capturing a decisive moment. The image that I eventually checked on the screen of my mirrorless camera embodied everything I had hoped for: beauty, resilience, and the unexpected. What started as an attempt to avoid the harsh weather turned into the opportunity to create a lasting memory.

I thought about Forrest Gump again as "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get”.
